The Ejido Topia is managed by the Otomi Indigenous community. Its forests are fundamental for the provision of water to agricultural lands in Durango state. This was recognised by Del Fuerte, a tomato company part of Grupo Herdez, who have agreed to sponsor the community so they can continue protecting the watersheds that nourish their business and the region.

San Gerónimo Zacapexco is an Otomi indigenous community located in central Mexico. Well known among visitors, Presa del Llano Park has several tourist certifications such as Indigenous Treasures and Clean Point. When added to the FSC Ecosystem Services, these certifications show tourists how their visit is helping to protect the forests.
