Explore the forests of Brazil

Brazilian forests are among the most biodiverse in the world, playing a critical role in regulating the global climate, storing vast amounts of carbon, and safeguarding freshwater systems. They also support the livelihoods of local and Indigenous communities while preserving unique ecosystems.

Safeguarding Brazil’s forests and ecosystem services

Brazil’s forests play a vital role in safeguarding ecosystem services such as biodiversity conservation, carbon storage, water regulation, and many other environmental benefits. Approximately half of Brazil’s territory is covered by the Amazon biome, which harbors rich socio-biodiversity and supports local economies based on smallholders, Indigenous Peoples, and traditional communities.

Contribute to the future of the Brazil forests!
Forest managers and communities across the country still require greater support and investment to ensure sustainable forest management and the long-term maintenance and restoration of these ecosystem services.

Maintenance of Life: Habitat Conservation in the Amazon

Located in the Amazon, Agrocortex's forest management covers 186,000 hectares of native forest, including 9,700 hectares of Absolute Protection Area.

The project seeks to conserve biodiversity through FSC®-certified sustainable forest management, combining low-impact selective logging, continuous monitoring of fauna and flora, and protection of sensitive habitats such as Brazil nut groves, streams (igarapés), and clay licks (barreiros).

The initiative integrates with the Agrocortex REDD+ Project (VERRA ID 1686) and maintains scientific partnerships to strengthen biodiversity corridors, generates robust data for ecosystem services, and establishes the area as a benchmark for biodiversity conservation in managed Amazon forests.

Highlights of this project:

  1. 186,000 ha of FSC-certified tropical forest managed under a 30-year Sustainable Forest Management Plan, within one of the largest intact forest landscapes in the southwestern Amazon.
  2. Conservation of at least 645 fauna species and 125 tree species, including 24 vulnerable species such as mahogany and cedar, with increasing species records over three monitoring cycles (2016–2024).
  3. Protection and monitoring of critical habitats such as 133 Brazil nut trees, 49 mineral licks and 4 streams, plus 9,402 ha of no-touch Absolute Protection Area, securing long-term biodiversity and ecosystem integrity.
