FSC suspends APP’s remedy process FSC FSC January 8, 2025 Category : Integrity and Disputes FSC has suspended the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the implementation of the FSC Remedy Framework by Asia Pulp and Paper (APP) until the end of March 2025. The decision was driven by the announced changes in the ultimate beneficiary owner of the companies in the corporate group that APP belongs to. More specifically, Domtar, a Canadian pulp and paper FSC-certified company, recently announced that Jackson Wijaya – the sole beneficial owner of Domtar – will also become APP’s sole beneficial owner. This was subsequently confirmed in a statement by APP. In light of this development, FSC needs to better understand the implications and the effect of this change in ownership, and any impacts on the scope of the APP remedy process and the MoU. FSC has commissioned an independent, third-party legal review which will commence immediately and conclude after the transfer of beneficial ownership of APP to Jackson Wijaya is complete. FSC and APP remain committed to the success of the remedy process started in May 2024, marked by signing an MoU between FSC and APP.
