In São Paulo, the Board discussed the importance of natural tropical forests, challenges and opportunities for certification in the Amazon and Latin American regions. The meeting also focused on priorities for 2025, FSC’s Global Strategy 2027-2032, and preparations for the General Assembly, which will take place in Panama in October 2025. The Board held a workshop on FSC’s Climate and Biodiversity Strategic Framework and provided guidance on a value proposition for certificate holders.

Bruno Rath, Regional Director for Latin America, and Elson Fernandes de Lima, Executive Director of FSC Brazil, also attended the meeting.

Seeing the impacts of forest certification on the ground

Board members had the opportunity to visit certified forests, experiencing first hand the impact of FSC certification on biodiversity, local communities, and sustainable management in a country home to the world’s largest rainforest.

They visited the companies Madeflona, Klablin S.A., and Suzano, and engaged with other organizations that work with forest management, including the Brazilian Forest Service, Floresta Manoa, and Tora Brasil.

Finally, in Brasilia, the Board held a strategic meeting with the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change to strengthen certification and broaden dialogue with various sectors.

This series of meetings marked a key step in bringing together global leaders and local stakeholders to strengthen certification and sustainable forest management, both in Brazil and globally.
