Key topic webinars for FSC Principles, Criteria, and Indicators revision

FSC invites all interested stakeholders to participate in a series of webinars focused on the ongoing revision of the Principles and Criteria (P&C), International Generic Indicators (IGI) and other forest management normative documents. These sessions will provide an opportunity to engage with key aspects of the revision process, covering social aspects, climate change and biodiversity conservation, and outcome orientation.

Background

FSC is revising its Principles & Criteria and International Generic Indicators—the foundation of FSC’s Forest Management Certification.

This process will shape the future of responsible forest management, ensuring that social, environmental, and economic sustainability remain at the core of FSC’s forest certification. The revision process is now in its conceptual phase, and FSC is hosting a series of webinars where stakeholders can learn about and contribute to shaping these standards.

FSC’s Principles and Criteria are the backbone of responsible forestry, guiding how forests are managed to benefit people, wildlife, and the forests. These standards influence certification requirements globally and ensure that FSC-certified forests meet high environmental and social standards. All stakeholders are invited to participate in the upcoming webinars to ensure these revisions reflect diverse perspectives, enhance clarity, and strengthen impact.  The feedback collected will shape the revision process leading up to the first public consultation planned for October 2025.

The webinars will focus on several critical topics that are central to the revision process:

 

Social Aspects (30 April 2025)

Responsible forest management must consider people as well. This discussion will cover key issues such as:

• The rights of Indigenous Peoples and their role in forest governance.
• Workers' rights, including fair wages, safe working conditions, and collective bargaining.
• Gender equality and how forestry can be more inclusive and equitable.

• The role of FSC certification in global climate and conservation strategies’.
