Five Business Innovation Challenges in Landscape Restoration as a Nature-based Solution 
FSC, represented by Pina Gervassi, FSC Climate & Restoration Director, and several partner organizations will co-host a side event highlighting business models aimed at overcoming five key challenges to forest landscape restoration, including innovations in tree-planting techniques in steep degraded terrain, achieving fair carbon prices for smallholders engaged in landscape restoration, and scaling up businesses and investments in restoration.

Making Gabon a Leader for Sustainable Tropical Timber in Global Markets – Collaborative Approaches to Increase the Societal Value of Forests 
FSC and the government of Gabon will lead a side event on FSC and sustainable forest management in Gabon. Kim Carstensen and Harrison Ochieng Kojwang (Regional Director Africa) will be joined by Dr. Ghislain Moussavou, Gabon’s Director General of Forests, to discuss the government of Gabon’s strategy to use FSC certification and rigorous policies to support the local timber industry, ensure global market access, and simultaneously meet commitments to the SDGs and the Paris Agreement.

Case Studies from the Amazon to Scandinavia: How Forest Stewardship Council certification balances forest conservation, Indigenous rights, and community wellbeing 
Led by Amparo Arellano, Dispute Resolution Manager, FSC International, the FSC Indigenous Foundation, and Indigenous organizations will highlight FSC’s commitment to protecting Indigenous Peoples’ rights, increasing their market share, improving their quality of life, and conserving biodiversity and ecosystem services.

Making it work: Enabling conditions for successful community-based tropical landscape restoration 
Pina Gervassi will speak at a side event organized by the Regional Community Forestry Training Center for Asia and the Pacific (RECOFTC) International Society of Tropical Foresters (ISTF). Exploring approaches for creating enabling conditions to engage with local communities involved in landscape restoration, the session will center the perspectives of farmers and local communities in addition to policymakers, the private sector, and the finance industry.

Kim Carstensen will join a fireside chat-style discussion in which young forest professionals can engage with and learn from the experiences of fellow professionals.  The discussion is organized by the International Network of Professional Forestry Associations, Future Foresters, and Young Professionals for Agricultural Development.
