FSC recently opened a new office in Korea to develop local consumer and business awareness about responsibly managed forests.

Cindy Cheng, FSC Asia Pacific Regional Director, officially launched the FSC Korea office with a speech, explaining the decision, saying: “First, Korea is one of Asia’s largest timber-importing nations and second, people here have a high environmental awareness and a certain level of recognition of the FSC brand. With a local presence, we can further connect responsible forestry to the everyday lives of people in Korea – allowing consumers to make a big difference. This will drive responsible forestry at a crucial time for global forest ecosystems.”

Dr. Kwon Seong Ok, FSC Asia Pacific Market Development Manager for Korea will champion the new office. She plans to work with people and businesses all around the country to build awareness about the importance of responsibly managed forests and highlight how the choices we make as consumers can directly impact the health of forest ecosystems in Korea, but also across Asia Pacific and around the world.

FSC Korea will initially focus its work on the local packaging and printing paper industries. Textiles and rubber are also important emerging sectors for FSC Korea, and the office will soon start developing relationships with players from the fashion industry.
