Global Consumer Awareness Insights on climate concern, forest protection, and responsible purchasing One of the world’s largest consumer studies on forests reveals rising consumer concerns about war, health, and economic uncertainty – while highlighting their eco-conscious actions to combat climate change.A new global study commissioned by FSC with Ipsos is one of the largest of its kind – surveying 40,802 consumers in 50 countries. It provides new insights into what consumers are concerned about, who they trust to address these concerns, and how they’re acting individually through their purchases to affect change. Consumer forest concerns FSC, in conjunction with Ipsos, conducted one of the world’s largest consumer studies on forests – with over 40,000 respondents across 50 countries. Consumers across 29 countries identified their top concerns for forests: FSC / Célio Cavalcante Filho 36% biodiversity loss 35% climate change 34% deforestation A sustainability expectation Consumers consistently report that they want to support companies and products that help to mitigate climate change, deforestation, and biodiversity loss.* Deforestation prevention 66% of respondents expect companies to ensure that the wood/paper products and packaging they sell are not contributing to deforestation. Climate change mitigation 60% of respondents prefer to choose products that don’t contribute to climate change. Certification guarantee 65% of respondents believe sustainability information on products should be certified by an independent organization Renewable materials 62% of respondents say they try to buy products packaged with renewable materials. Consumers trust FSC FSC is the most trusted to protect forests – with a higher rate than governments and private companies.FSC is the most recognized certification system worldwide.** Taking action 3 out of 4 consumers prefer to choose products that do not damage plants and animals 2 out of 4 consumers want to protect forests by purchasing products certified independently FSC has a clear consumer advantage Consumers who know and recognize FSC display a high level of advocacy and purchase impact while shopping.
