The Scope

To support the Data and Innovations program team with GIS data and analytics tasks.

 

Main Roles and Responsibilities

  • Developing scripts for performing standard, geospatial, and remote sensing analysis.
  • Processing and evaluation of GIS and Remote Sensing data under guidance.
  • Helping with general ad hoc GIS administrative tasks.
  • Engaging with different internal and external users.
  • Literature review and evaluation of available methodologies, data, publication, etc.
  • Ability to develop data analytics dashboards that leverage variety of data sets and GIS.
  • Preparation of presentations and documents.
  • Support of project and administrative work.
  • Any other task as assigned by formal supervisor and project work as assigned according to special organizational needs.

 

Qualification, Experience and Skills

     

    Education and Training:

    • Currently enrolled in a university to study for an advanced degree in areas of Geographic Information Systems, geoinformatics, data science, or any field with a strong bias for geospatial data and analytics.

     

    Skills:

    • Functional knowledge in GIS tools (ArcGIS or QGIS).
    • Functional knowledge of spatial analysis and remote sensing techniques.
    • Proficient in cartography and preparation of infographic maps.
    • Familiarity in data processing and scripting languages (Python, R, or similar).
    • Familiarity with Web Services (ESRI, OGC) and Map Tiles.
    • Functional knowledge of MS office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
    • Interest in programming for data science (Python, R, SQL, Javascript)
    • Familiarity with Google Earth Engine is a plus.
    • Ability to collaborate with other internal teams to design improvements to the developer experience.
    • An independent thinker, creative, analytical and conceptual approach to problem solving.
    • Attentive to detail.
    • Ability to work in a multicultural and international team.

     

    Language and Communication Skills:

    • Fluency in English.
    • Spanish is a plus.
    • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relations. 
    • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical users.

     

    Terms and Conditions

    • Start date: As soon as possible.
    • Working hours: 20 hours per week.
    • Duration: 6 months with an opportunity to extend.
    • Remuneration: 12€ gross per hour.
    • Location: FSC office Bonn, Germany or remote.
