FSC opens consultations on standards, strategy, and regulatory updates

FSC has several active consultations open right now. Whether you work in certification, supply chains, or forest management, this is your chance to help shape the frameworks that guide responsible forestry globally.  

What is open for consultation?  

Chain of custody standards 

FSC is holding a final consultation on updated Chain of Custody standards, which control how certified forest products are tracked in supply chains. This is the last chance to give feedback before the standards are finalized in 2027 and gradually implemented from July 2027.

Regulatory Module 

FSC is consulting on updates to our Regulatory Module following recent amendments to the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), including updates in July 2024 and a further package in May 2026. The revised regulatory framework includes an updated implementation timeline, with enforcement for large and medium-sized enterprises now set for 31 December 2028.

FSC Global Strategy 2027-2032  

This consultation of the draft Global Strategy for 2027-2032 is open to FSC members, staff, and the wider public. We welcome your input in shaping the direction of FSC in the coming years.

Joint Public Consultation: Certification statement for FSC Regulatory Module and FM Audit Duration 

FSC seeks feedback on the following draft Advice Notes to support clearer certification outputs and more consistent audit practices across certification bodies: 

• ADV-STD-20-001-13 – Certification statement (FSC Regulatory Module) 

Clarifies certification statement wording for organizations using the FSC Regulatory Module, including reference to due diligence processes (e.g. information collection, risk assessment, and risk mitigation). 

• ADV-STD-20-007-28 – Minimum audit duration (Forest Management) 

Introduces a minimum audit duration baseline for Forest Management certification audits and clarifies expectations for audit planning, reporting, and justification of audit time.
