Call for Technical Working Group on FPIC Guidance for Remedy

Are you passionate about forests, Indigenous Peoples’ rights and sustainability? We’re looking for 5 experts to join a Technical Working Group to finalize indicators that will guide free, prior and informed consent (FPIC) in remedy processes at FSC.

The FSC Remedy Framework provides a pathway for organizations to address and remedy past environmental and social harm. The application of FPIC is therefore central to remedy processes and is assessed at key stages. In 2025, FSC published a working draft of the FPIC Guidance for Remedy to support consistent implementation of FPIC in remedy processes.

FSC is now establishing a Technical Working Group (TWG) to support the finalization of this guidance. The TWG will review and simplify the draft indicators and guidance, address outstanding areas requiring clarification, contribute to a stakeholder consultation process, and provide input to the design of a learning phase for the application of FPIC indicators in remedy contexts.

Please note that the FPIC Guidance for Remedy is a guidance document and does not create or revise any FSC normative requirements. It serves as a resource and basis for shared understanding between the different actors in remedy processes under the FSC Remedy Framework.           

TWG Composition and Expertise

FSC aims to ensure that the TWG include representatives from the following stakeholder groups: (a) Indigenous Peoples, advisors with direct FPIC experience, or trusted Indigenous experts; (b) forest management companies; and (c) auditing or verification services. FSC will also seek to ensure diversity in geographic representation, gender, and background.

Expected Commitment 

TWG members are expected to dedicate approximately 6–8 hours per month (approximately 40–50 hours in total). This includes:

• 1–2 online meetings per month; and
• Participation in one in-person workshop (2 days). 

The TWG is expected to complete its work by December 2026. Please refer to the Terms of Reference (Annex 2) for the indicative timeline and workplan.

Stipends

To support equitable participation, FSC is offering the possibility of a stipend to acknowledge the time and commitment required for TWG members who may not have institutional support. The indicative stipend is a pro-rated fixed amount of USD 1,400 for 50 hours of contribution. The final stipend will be based on the latest applicable version of the FSC Administrative Stipends Policy.

FSC will also cover reasonable travel and accommodation costs for participation in the in-person workshop.
