FSC Aligned for EUDR

Promotional statements for certificate holders

FSC deforestation-free promotional statements

Robust certification can help companies meet EUDR requirements. As one of the most credible sustainable forestry solutions, FSC standards are aligned with the EUDR legality and sustainability requirements and can help companies assess and minimize the risk that relevant forest-based products come from a plot of land that was deforested or degraded.

Note: Being certified does not automatically exempt companies from EUDR obligations.

Promotional statements made by FSC Certificate Holders relating to ‘deforestation’ or ‘deforestation-free’ refer to the understanding of those terms contained in the EUDR.

According to Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 31 May 2023, also known as EUDR:

‘deforestation’ means the conversion of forest to agricultural use, whether human-induced or not; ‘deforestation-free’ means that the relevant products contain, have been fed with or have been made using, relevant commodities that were produced on land that has not been subject to deforestation after 31 December, 2020; and in the case of relevant products that contain or have been made using wood, that the wood has been harvested from the forest without inducing forest degradation after 31 December, 2020.
