Due to additional demands for FSC Recycled products because of the COVID-19 pandemic, FSC has issued a derogation about using virgin fibre in these products.
This derogation provides measures to temporarily perform main chain of custody audits remotely until 31 December 2020.
The amendments provide clarification on some elements of the derogation related to remote chain of custody (CoC) audits and align the interpretation with it.

The economic impacts of the pandemic are taking a heavy toll on companies and their workforce all over the world.
FSC has produced a podcast with Eastman Naia, a brand supplying the textile industry with sustainable cellulose fibers. The central theme is the importance of responsible sourcing and sustainable forest management in the apparel industry.
FSC plans to hold an additional consultation later in the year, on incorporating the FSC Core Labour Requirements into the chain of custody standards. Members of the related working group will maintain their efforts to incorporate the requirements in the meantime.
A technical working group is now tasked with reviewing all disputes handling procedures at FSC. In parallel, a consultation forum is now open for all stakeholders to contribute in the development of the procedure.
Finally, some good news in these difficult times! In total, over 2.9 million hectares of forests are now FSC certified in the Republic of Congo.
