Due to additional demands for FSC Recycled products because of the COVID-19 pandemic, FSC has issued a derogation about using virgin fibre in these products.
This derogation provides measures to temporarily perform main chain of custody audits remotely until 31 December 2020.
The amendments provide clarification on some elements of the derogation related to remote chain of custody (CoC) audits and align the interpretation with it.
The FSC Permanent Indigenous Peoples Committee is seeking two applicants for a three-year term in the FSC Indigenous Foundation Council. The deadline to submit applications is 24 July 2020.

FSC takes swift action following an investigation revealed a scheme with over 18,000 tons of non-certified product entering the market as FSC certified.
FSC requires to set aside large areas – within a default level of 80 per cent – of the intact forest landscapes within management units. The additional guidance advises standard developers in situations that require deviating from this default threshold.

FSC plans to hold an additional consultation later in the year, on incorporating the FSC Core Labour Requirements into the chain of custody standards. Members of the related working group will maintain their efforts to incorporate the requirements in the meantime.
A technical working group is now tasked with reviewing all disputes handling procedures at FSC. In parallel, a consultation forum is now open for all stakeholders to contribute in the development of the procedure.
Finally, some good news in these difficult times! In total, over 2.9 million hectares of forests are now FSC certified in the Republic of Congo.
