We are looking for an engaged Policy Manager (Forest Stewardship Standards) who brings solid expertise and a passion for FSC’s mission, to work with us in a multinational environment.

The Scope

To oversee the development, manage the content assessment and approval of FSC requirements in various countries (e.g., forest stewardship standards, risk assessments, and other requirements), as well as to support the development of other documents for the FSC Normative Framework.

Main Roles and Responsibilities

  • To assess forest stewardship standards, risk assessments, and requirements submitted to PSU (Performance and Standards Unit) for approval and implement decisions made by the approving body.
  • To provide support and trainings to standard developers responsible for the development and maintenance of forest stewardship standards, risk assessments, and requirements in the country.
  • To align managed process and contents with similar processes ongoing in other countries.
  • To support development and revision processes of other normative documents relevant to forest stewardship standards, risk assessments, and requirements.
  • To build and maintain constructive relations with standard developers, network partners, regional offices and stakeholders affected by relevant forest stewardship standards, risk assessments, and requirements.
  • To handle administration, information and interpretation requests related to normative documents.
  • Additional tasks as assigned by the formal supervisor.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

Education and Training:

  • A minimum of Master or equivalent university degree in a relevant field, for example, forestry, forest management, ecology, environmental sciences, or natural resource management.
  • Training in forest certification, project management, and/or forest management auditing are assets.


Working Experience, Style, and Skills:

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in forest management/forestry projects and any of the following: forest certification, development and review of sustainability standards and related documents, projects in the field of nature conservation/protection, sustainability, ecology, or other related fields.
  • Knowledge on key challenges in forestry sector and awareness about dynamics between forest and stakeholders are a plus.
  • Ability to equally weigh environmental, social, and economic aspects of forestry.
  • Ability to perform well while handling simultaneously several functions.
  • Solutions and service-oriented attitude to work.
  • Proven ability to plan and organize work (e.g., by relevant professional project management experience).
  • A very strong sense for diligence and accuracy.
  • Proven ability to use data and data insights in day-to-day work.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven report writing skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact with relevant stakeholders.


Computer Skills:

  • Good skills in the use of/experience with standard software packages (MS Office 365 is a must).
  • Tableau, GIS software are a plus.


Language and Communication Skills:

  • Fluency in English (both verbal and written).
  • Spanish is a plus.

Terms and Conditions:

  • Location: Bonn, Germany.
  • Working Hours:  Full time - 40 hours per week.
  • Duration of Employment: Temporary contract - 2 years (extension possible).
  • Starting Date: As soon as possible.
