Policy Manager – Forest Management (m-f-d)

We are looking for an engaged Policy Manager – Forest Management who brings solid expertise and a passion for FSC’s mission, to work with us in a multinational environment.


The Scope

To plan, organize and coordinate the development, maintenance and consistent implementation of normative FSC documents in the core area of responsible forest management.


Main Roles and Responsibilities

  • To coordinate Forest Management projects and working group processes within the normative framework, including the review and revision of the FSC Principles and Criteria and International Generic Indicators:
    • Coordinate the process and implement the work plan, ensuring budget adherence and that deadlines are met.
    • Coordinate working groups, project team, consultants, etc.
    • Conduct communication activities (organize public consultations, maintain FSC website content, trainings, preparation of materials for members meetings, etc.)
    • Align with other units/teams, in particular with the Forest Stewardship Standards team, the Engagement team and Network Partners.
    • Keep up-to-date and comprehensive records relevant to the process
  • Support the development of training materials related to the FSC Remedy Framework.
  • Reply to information requests by stakeholders, particularly Certification Bodies and Network Partners related to assigned responsibilities. 
  • Develop, under the guidance of the Programme Manager, annual work plan and budget for the relevant projects.
  • To represent FSC externally and other fora.
  • Additional Tasks as agreed with the Programme Manager.


Qualification, Experience and Skills

  • Education and Training:
    • University/technical college degree in forestry, environmental sciences or a related field.
    • Training in Project Management, FSC Certification, Communications, and/or administration are assets.
  • Working Experience, Style and Skills:
    • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in one or more of the following: multi-stakeholder standards development processes, certification (including auditing), the forest sector, deforestation, conservation/restoration and social restitution.
    • Experience in leading cross-functional project teams and managing complex projects.
    • Pro-active approach towards solving problems as they occur.
    • Good time management skills as well as strong sense for diligence and accuracy.
    • Solution- and service-oriented attitude to work.
    • Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relations.
  • Languages and Communication Skills:
    • Fluency in English (spoken and written).
    • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to facilitate interactive discussions
  • Computer Skills – good skills in the use of/experience with:
    • Standard software packages (MS Office).
    • Database management platforms or Content Management Systems is a plus.
  • Others:
    • Commitment to FSC’s mission and values.
    • Ability to represent FSC through his/her work with exemplary personal and professional authority and conduct.


Terms and Conditions

  • Location: Bonn, Germany.
  • Duration of Employment: The position is for a parental leave substitution, therefore limited to 12 months, with a possible extension.
  • Starting Date: 15th March 2023 or as soon as possible.
  • Travel: Sporadic travel may be required.
  • Working Hours: Full time - 40 hours per week.
