We are looking for an engaged Geospatial Information Systems Developer who brings solid expertise and a passion for FSC’s mission, to work with us in a multinational environment.

 

The Scope

To support the organization to implement and maintain a long-term GIS vision by enhancing and expanding the portfolio of GIS-based technology tools. Help to drive the use of GIS to provide solutions to a wide range of FSC stakeholders.

 

Main Roles and Responsibilities

To maintain, enhance and develop FSC’s current and future GIS solutions by:

  • Designing, developing, and implementing GIS tools based on user experiences and workflows.
  • Debugging, optimizing, extending, and redeploying existing GIS web-based applications using custom, reusable, and responsive UI components.
  • Working closely with internal and external teams/stakeholders and product owners to define, design, and implement features.
  • Working with ESRI technologies to keep FSC GIS portfolio up to date with the latest front-end and back-end technologies.
  • Finding, analyzing, and fixing bugs and performance problems whenever they occur.
  • Building high quality applications by working effectively in an agile, highly interactive, and creative team environment.
  • Supporting development of technical documentation and end-user training resources.
  • Research, recommend and support the implementation of new GIS products, services, and protocols to meet data and information needs for various FSC user groups/stakeholders.
  • Support the establishment,implementation,and management of consistent processes for data sharing with internal and external stakeholders, in cooperation with Legal Department.
  • Support the management of projects related to data gathering, standardization, and management, including but not limited to data collection (spatial and standard), data standardization, data publication.
  • Any other task as assigned by formal supervisor based on special organizational needs.

 

 

Qualification, Experience and Skills

Education and Training:

  • Bachelor’s or master's degree in computer science, geoinformatics, software engineering or related field is mandatory.
  • Certifications relevant to GIS are an added advantage

 

Working Experience, Style, and Skills:

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in developing GIS Solutions using ESRI technologies.
  • Strong JavaScript or Python or .NET development skills.
  • Demonstrated developing and deploying GIS solutions with ArcGIS JavaScript or Python API (Application Programming Interface).
  • Experience with HTML/CSS, including concepts like layout, specificity, cross browser compatibility, and accessibility.
  • Experience designing and developing UI/UX that simplify complex workflows with JavaScript frameworks (React) or similar.
  • Experience with Web Services (ESRI, OGC) and Map Tiles.
  • Experience working with GitHub.
  • Familiarity with REST/ SOAP service architectures.
  • Familiarity with spatial-enabled databases.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based deployments (Azure, AWS).
  • Ability to build high quality software in a constantly evolving agile environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with other internal teams to design improvements to the developer experience.
  • Excellent problem-solving, design, development, and debugging skills.
  • Excellent estimation and management of delivery timelines. 
  • Ability to perform well while handling competing priorities and several functions. 
  • Solution oriented attitude to work. 
  • A strong sense of diligence and service. 
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. 

 

 

Computing Skills:

  • Any official ESRI certification.
  • Experience with ESRI suite: ArcGIS Pro, Online, Server, Enterprise, Web App, Survey123, App Studio.
  • Experience with satellite imagery and ESRI Image server.
  • Experience in areas of data analysis, and data visualization, particularly in the realm of communicating analytical results as informative, interactive, charts, etc.
  • Experience with testing cycles.
  • Experience with software development and release of commercial software products.
  • CRM (Customer Relationship Management) systems. 
  • Understanding of data management concepts and practices (e.g., metadata, permissions, recovery, security, privacy, quality, and monitoring) and data integration (ETL/ELT) procedures.

 

 

Language and Communication Skills:

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Spanish and/or French is a plus.
  • Demonstrated successful verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relations. 
  • Ability to communicate complex technical tech concepts to business users.

 

 

Terms and Conditions

  • Location: Bonn, Germany.
  • Working Hours: Full time - 40 hours per week.
  • Duration of Employment: Temporary contract - 2 years (extension possible, subject to satisfactory performance).
  • Starting Date: As soon as possible.
  • Travel: Sporadic travel may be required.
