We are looking for an engaged Geospatial Information System Manager who brings solid expertise and a passion for FSC’s mission, to work with us in a multinational environment.

 

The Scope

Will be responsible for building and publishing digital maps, spatial analysis and remote sensing work for various FSC business activities and projects. Will also build and disseminate mapping and spatial analysis capabilities in FSC, and ensure the development and maintenance of applications based upon spatial referenced data and digital mapping. The GIS Manager will also preserve the integrity and design of geographic information databases, as well as manage and direct a team of IT professionals whose purpose is to support GIS functions.

 

Main Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead, coordinate, and manage all aspects of GIS implementations.
  • Participate in design of new GIS analysis methodologies, applications, and strategies.
  • Establish and implement policies, procedures, and technologies (including firewalls) to ensure GIS security.
  • Ensure alignment and integration of GIS components in FSC IT infrastructure and applications.
  • Coordinate and administer the acquisition of satellite imagery; conduct analysis of digital imagery.
  • Design sophisticated raster- and vector-based GIS analysis and classifications.
  • Maintain and augment remote sensing and relational databases.
  • Coordinate and conduct GIS training sessions for GIS staff and end users with client-facing application needs.
  • Provide GIS guidance and support to the enterprise; act as single point of contact for GIS-related issues.
  • Lead transitions of GIS applications to next-generation environments and/or cross-functional systems.
  • Examine and analyze the FSC Normative Framework (Policies, Standards, Interpretations, etc.) to extract and document all spatial information elements stipulated and postulated in them, as well as analyze them through GIS tools.
  • Expand GIS use within FSC programmatic areas by proposing relevant projects/analytics and lead or assist their implementation as agreed with relevant program leads.
  • Any other additional tasks as assigned by the formal supervisor based on evolving organizational requirements.

 

 

Qualification, Experience and Skills

Education and Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, or computer science.
  • Certification in GIS Professional, Esri Technical certification or online GIS certification are an added advantage

 

Working Experience, Style and Skills:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience in GIS – designing sophisticated raster- and vector-based GIS analysis and classifications, and developing and conducting spatial analysis and spatial data management.
  • Advanced knowledge of GIS software and strong familiarity with relational database design as it applies to GIS software.
  • Strong familiarity with ArcGIS, ArcInfo, ArcEditor, ArcIMS, ArcSDE, and ArcView software products.
  • Expert knowledge and experience with ArcGIS Identity Manager, and how it is deployed and configured to ensure the proper access and dissemination of FSC geospatial data.
  • In-depth knowledge of general mapping principles, demographics analysis, spatial analysis, remote sensing, and cartography.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining GIS systems.
  • Proven experience in data modeling.
  • Superior project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to train team members and end users on GIS data and applications.
  • Ability to conduct research into GIS issues and products as required.
  • Good time management skills: Ability to prioritize and perform well while handling competing tasks.
  • Solution- and service-oriented attitude to work.
  • A strong sense of diligence and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

 

Languages:

  • Fluency in English (spoken and written).
  • Spanish and/or French is a plus

 

Computer Skills:

  • Familiarity with graphic editing software and Web development tools
  • Good technical knowledge of current network operating systems and client-server implementations
  • Working knowledge of coding/programming languages
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office suite, Visio, MS Project, and Office 365.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis tools and software, such as SPSS.
  • Experience working with a variety of remote imagery systems, e.g. IKONOS, GeoEye, Landsat, Sentinel, SPOT.
  • Strong computing skills in data, databases and programming would be an advantage (DBMS, Python, R).

 

Additional valuable skills:

  • Knowledge of certification systems such as in forestry and environmental sciences
  • Statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, etc.) and experience with applications.
  • Working knowledge of the ISEAL Core Metadata Set / Standard
  • Open Knowledge and Interoperability repositories, e.g., Dspace, Fedora.
  • MS Dynamics.
  • Salesforce.

Terms and Conditions

  • Location: Bonn, Germany.
  • Working Hours: Full time - 40 hours per week.
  • Duration of Employment: Temporary contract - 2 years (extension possible, subject to satisfactory performance).
  • Starting Date: As soon as possible.
  • Travel: Sporadic travel is required.
