We are looking for an engaged Communications Manager who brings solid expertise and a passion for FSC’s mission, to work with us in a multinational environment.

 

The Scope

To develop strategies for and implement all communications with FSC’s international members and identified stakeholder groups and associations, in a targeted, engaging manner. 

 

Main Roles and Responsibilities

  • To develop and implement an annual communications plan for the Membership and Stakeholder Solutions, aligned with FSC’s global communications strategy.
  • To develop and maintain a systematic outreach and feedback mechanism for members and stakeholders in ongoing discussions (non-technical).
  • To monitor various communication and outreach platforms and encourage feedback and engagement, both to staff and to external audiences.
  • To provide strategic guidance on reaching and engaging key audiences.
  • To write and disseminate media releases, articles, editorials, and other communications materials.
  • To supervise the development and maintenance of content for websites, social media, corporate communications material, and members’ update on an ongoing basis.
  • To develop and update printed or digital materials, such as brochures and fact sheets.
  • To provide communications support to selected events.
  • To collaborate with Communications Unit on storytelling and media outreach activities.
  • To align with the Communications Director on all relevant topics and activities. 
  • Any other task as assigned by formal supervisor and project work as assigned according to special organizational needs.

 

Qualification, Experience and Skills

Education and Training:

  • Bachelor or master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations).

 

Working Experience, Style and Skills:

  • At least 5 years of communications experience on a regional or global basis (global preferred), with at least 2 years in a management position.
  • Good time management skills: Ability to perform well while handling a number of functions simultaneously.
  • Ability to function in a high pressure environment.
  • Solution- and service-oriented attitude to work.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good understanding of the global discussions and key actors in the fields of forest governance and sustainability.
  • Good understanding of working in a membership-governed international organization.

 

Languages:

  • Mother tongue fluency in English (spoken and written).
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or French would be a plus.
  • Computer Skills – good skills in the use of/experience with: Excellent skills in the use of standard software packages (e.g. MS Office).

 

Communication Skills:

  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills, including copy writing and media release writing.
  • Ability to deliver engaging messaging to specific target groups.
  • Ability to prioritise and handle multiple projects.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relations.

 

Others:

  • Ability to work well as a member of a multi-cultural, inter-disciplinary, multi-lingual, global team.
  • Commitment to FSC’s mission and values.
  • Demonstrated cultural awareness and sensitivity to the diversity of values, views and approaches to issues relevant to the FSC programme by stakeholders around the world.
  • Basic understanding of the scope of FSC’s programmes and activities.
  • Ability to represent FSC through their work with exemplary personal and professional authority and conduct.

 

Terms and Conditions

  • Location: Bonn, Germany.
  • Working Hours: Full time - 40 hours per week.
  • Duration of Employment: 2 years extension possible, subject to satisfactory performance.
  • Starting Date: As soon as possible.
  • Travel: Sporadic travel is required.
