When the FSC international membership approved the latest version of the FSC Principles & Criteria (P&C) – the founding standard in the FSC certification system – it meant that all the existing National Forest Stewardship Standards (NFSS, the P&C applied at the national level) would have to be revised to meet a set of indicators that addresses each of the criteria in the P&C, the International Generic Indicators (IGIs).

“To be sure, this is no easy task for our SDGs,” says Gordian Fanso, Policy Manager for National Standards at FSC, “but with tremendous help by the Transfer Procedure Working Group members, we developed tools to streamline this process.”

Development and Transfer of National Forest Stewardship Standards to the FSC Principles and Criteria (FSC-PRO-60-006)

This procedure outlines the process for developing new NFSS and transferring existing NFSS to meet the P&C V5-1, and describes how to use the IGIs (FSC-STD-60-004).

Transfer Matrix (FSC-TPT-60-008)

This template contains everything standard developers need to know: the P&C, the IGIs, relevant annexes, detailed instructions, a glossary of terms, and a concise assessment checklist created by the Policy and Standards Unit at FSC International.
