The second draft of the policy advances how to assess the environmental and social risks of pesticides at the different levels of control (international, national, and forest management unit). It also includes further refinement of its:

  • approach to assessing risk perceptions associated with toxicity and exposure
  • scope of the policy
  • definition of ‘prohibited highly hazardous pesticides’
  • requirements for engaging with third-party tree nurseries and on-site wood processing plants.

More than 124 participants – comprising stakeholders from the forest sector and toxicology experts – from more than 40 countries participated in the first consultation in 2017. The synopsis report on the results of the first consultation is available here.
