In Africa, five technical experts with 75 years of combined work experience across forestry, auditing, and managing groups of foresters are testing a new concept called ‘continuous improvement’ in Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya. Annah Agasha, topic leader on stepwise approaches in the New Approaches to Certification for Smallholders and Communities, will coordinate the working group. ‘Continuous improvement’ aims to improve access to FSC certification for small forest owners and communities by identifying and prioritizing the most critical practice of responsible forestry to be tackled first, before advancing into additional requirements.
