In August 2017, the FSC International Board of Directors decided to approve the development of requirements based on the generic criteria and indicators derived from the ILO Core Conventions into the Chain of Custody Standards (FSC-STD-20-011 and FSC-STD-40-004).  

The ILO fundamental Conventions cover fundamental principles and rights at work: freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining; the elimination of all forms of forced or compulsory labour; the effective abolition of child labour; and the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation
