“Small changes” are defined as the revision or addition of one or two requirements. Performance and Standards Unit of FSC (PSU) is following Clause 2.2 in Annex 4 of FSC-PRO-01-001 Development and Revision of FSC Normative Documents to conduct this process. More information on the “Small Changes” process deviation can be found here.

An internal Technical Working Group (iTWG) in PSU was established in October 2021. Since then, the iTWG has been working on the revision and drafting of the following IGI in the FSC-STD-60-004 V2-0 EN in the following ways.

Addressing the unintended reference (asterisk mark) to the glossary term 'significant',  by referencing a new glossary term “dispute of significant number of interests” for the following two indicators:

  • IGI 1.6.4: Operations cease in areas where disputes*exist: 1) Of substantial magnitude*; or 2) Of substantial duration*; or 3) Involving a significant*number of interests.
  • IGI 4.6.4: Operations cease in areas while disputes*exist of: 1) Substantial magnitude*; 2) Substantial duration*; or 3) Involving a significant* number of interests.

Amending the language to safeguard gender-inclusiveness considering the FSC FSC-GUI-60-005 V1-0 EN Promoting Gender equality in national forest stewardship standards in the following:

  • IGI 2.2.3: Work typically carried out by women (nurseries, silviculture, Non Timber Forest Product harvesting, weighing, packing, etc.) is included in training and health & safety programs to the same extent as work typically carried out by men.
  • IGI 2.2.5: Women are paid directly and using mutually agreed methods (e.g. direct bank transfer, direct payments for school fees, etc.) to ensure they safely receive and retain their wages.

The next step is launching a 30-day public consultation for the draft in April 2022. Contributions received will be analyzed by the iTWG during the draft’s revision. The process is expected to be completed by the mid of 2022. Stay tuned for more details soon to come on the public consultation!
