Within the scope of FSC forest management certification. One of the proposed changes calls for the standard under revision to be now titled as FSC Group Certification Standard.

The FSC International members emphasized the need to revise the standard at the 2017 general assembly. Motion GA2017/46 called for the revision of the FSC Group Certification Standard with special attention to smallholders and communities. The FSC standard describes the relation between managers and members within a group certification scheme. Since its release in 2009, only one minor revision was conducted in 2017.

The full revision of the standard is scheduled to begin in December 2018, and should take around 18 months. The New Approaches for Smallholders and Communities Certification team will coordinate the revision. It will follow the procedure FSC-PRO-01-001 The Development and Revision of FSC® Normative Documents.

The Technical Working Group consists of group managers, certification bodies, and other key stakeholders with experience on smallholders and communities’ certification or support. Participants were selected following a call for applications earlier this year. The group will provide all relevant expertise to guide the revision process. It is supported by a technical writer, a technical coordinator, and a project coordinator.

The members of the newly-formed Technical Working Group include:

Marie-Christine Fléchard Auditor/Certification Body
Gabriel Bolton Auditor/Certification Body
Victoria Rizo Group Manager

Conceição Silva dos Santos Group Manager
