The FSC Pesticides Policy regulates the use of pesticides in certified operations. Its key elements are:
- the identification and avoidance of ‘highly hazardous’ pesticides;
- the promotion of ‘non-chemical’ methods of pest management as an element of an integrated pest management strategy;
- the appropriate use of those pesticides that are employed.
The FSC International Board of Directors decided to revise this policy in March 2015 and, in November 2015, approved the terms of reference for an interest-balanced working group to lead this revision process.
The original call for membership applications has been extended until 31 March 2016 to establish a working group that has well-balanced interests. Stakeholders representing social interests and environmental interests, as well as technical experts representing social interests, are encouraged to send in their applications to Tania Einfeldt at pesticides.policy@fsc.org.
