Selva Maya: Communities preserving a biodiversity hot spot

Community-managed conservation in Southern Mexico: Selva Maya Alliance

The Selva Maya Alliance, composed by several Ejidos (community-managed lands), is the home of several endangered species, such as the King Vulture and the Jaguar, in an area of more than 67,000 hectares. These forest stewards require further support to continue investing in the protection of habitats and keeping the exuberance and benefits their forests give to the planet.

Ejido Topia: Water and recreation for the North of Mexico

Mexican community protects water for Durango

The Ejido Topia is managed by the Otomi Indigenous community. Its forests are fundamental for the provision of water to agricultural lands in Durango state. This was recognised by Del Fuerte, a tomato company part of Grupo Herdez, who have agreed to sponsor the community so they can continue protecting the watersheds that nourish their business and the region.
